Keep your place: pinned notes can stay put while the list scrolls, and searching now takes you to the match instead of only lighting it up.

• Search jumps to the match. Typing in the search box used to highlight every match in the open note without moving it, so a match below the fold lit up entirely offscreen. The editor now scrolls the first match into view, about a third of the way down so there's context beneath it rather than pinning it to the bottom edge. Your cursor is left where it was.
• Fixed: submitting a fleeting note from the Inbox did nothing when its title matched a note you already had, instead of filing it as “Foo (2)”. A regression from 1.10.0's path hardening.

Make Envy only the parts you use: the Inbox and Continuity Camera can each be switched off completely.

• Scanned documents span the full width. A tall, full-page scan can now stretch to the editor's edge instead of being capped short, so a photographed page reads properly inline.
• Fixed: a quoted search-operator argument like folder:"test folder" now styles as one unit instead of half-greyed; and typing * reliably pairs it, with a second * making it bold, no stray asterisks.
• Security: hardened how attachment and subfolder paths are handled, so a crafted note or name can never reach outside your Index.

Scan and search the physical world: photograph or scan straight into a note, and Envy reads the text so you can find it later.

• Live Text and transcription. Drag across the text on any scan to select and copy it, or right-click for “Copy Text from Image” and “Transcribe Text into Note” (which drops the words in as plain text below the picture).
• Newer Kindles, via Moorage. Kindle import now also reads from an MTP Kindle mounted with Moorage (under ~/Moorage), so newer models work too, not just older USB-mounting ones.
• Everything runs on-device: no account, no network, nothing leaves your Mac. Printed pages, whiteboards, and receipts read cleanly; handwriting is a coin flip.

Bring your reading home: Envy now imports Kindle highlights.

Important: this currently works only with older Kindles that mount as a USB drive in Finder. Newer Kindles connect over MTP, which macOS doesn’t mount natively, so they aren’t supported yet; support for those is coming later.

• It remembers what it imported. Plug in after each reading session and only new highlights come in, even if you’ve since filed, retitled, or deleted the earlier ones. That memory lives in an Envy Data folder inside your Index, so it travels with your vault: import on one Mac and a second Mac on the same synced vault won’t re-import the same highlights. “Forget Import History” resets it to redo everything.
• Make the notes yours. Choose what the title carries (page, location, both, or neither) and whether each note’s attribution shows the author and location.
• Fixed: in the note list, a folder dot’s hover label no longer blanks the date when the two aren’t anywhere near touching.

Your vault, browsable: type an operator with nothing after it and the list becomes a catalog you can pick from, rename from, and trust.

• What you click is exactly what you get. Quoting an operator argument now demands an exact match: tag:"tag" matches only #tag, never #tags; folder:"Work" means that folder and its nested folders, never a lookalike like Workshop. Every click (browser rows, tag chips, folder dots) produces the quoted form, so a row's count always equals what clicking it shows. Bare arguments keep the friendlier partial match for typing.
• Long titles in the note list yield gracefully: the date is never cut off; the title hard-stops before it, fades at the edge so it reads as continuing, and scrolls on hover to reveal the rest (the editor's title bar got the same fade). The folder dot keeps hugging the title's end.
• Fixed: checkbox clicks no longer register far to the right of the box; a title that fits no longer twitches on hover; keyboard shortcuts (Delete, Pin) no longer act on an invisible note while you're browsing tags, folders, templates, or trash; tag and folder renames commit any unsaved typing first so nothing is lost; floating notes stay above the main window even with Keep Envy on Top active; arrow-key highlights in every browser scroll into view; and the date steps aside while a folder dot's hover label shows.

• Recolor a folder from the title bar. Right-click the folder chip beside a note's title for the same color menu the list's dot offers: presets, a custom color, or Remove Color. The color belongs to the folder, so it repaints everywhere at once.
• Fixed: the folder-dot hover label no longer clips at the top of the list or floats over the note title. On a trailing dot (the default) it now sits in the empty space just to the right of the dot, on every row.

• Fixed: submitting several fleeting notes to the same folder in a row: the second consecutive submit silently did nothing until you left and re-entered the inbox (the Submit menu was still holding the note you'd already filed). Each submit now files the note actually on screen.
• The footer's vault-counts divider now matches the bar's own rule: full height, same 1pt thickness and color, so the two read as one family of chrome lines.

Folders, everywhere you look: the answer to “where does this note live?” is now one glance (or one click) away from wherever you are.

• Click a folder dot to see that folder. The dot (or name chip) in the note list now pivots the search to folder:"Name" on click, the same jump a tag chip makes. Right-click still recolors; hover still names it.
• Ghost text for tags. Start typing # in a note and the rest of an existing tag appears in grey, your most-used match first, exactly like [[link]] completion: Tab or Right-arrow accepts. Works in peeks and pop-outs too.
• Vault totals in the footer. How many notes and folders you have, sitting to the right of the word and character counts behind a small divider. Settings → General turns it off.
• Fixed: a long folder name on a dot's hover label no longer gets cut off at the window edge (it now grows inward over the list). Clicking the menu bar icon while Envy is in full screen no longer hides the window into a stranded empty space; it just brings Envy front, jumping to its space if you clicked from another one.

Filing and finding: every organizing axis in Envy now has a first-class search operator, and folders can be targeted from everywhere a note is born or reviewed.

• folder:name finds notes filed under a folder, partial and case-insensitive like tag:, matched against the whole relative path. A bare folder: means anything in a subfolder; -folder: alone means the unfiled notes at the root.
• title:word restricts matching to titles only: the note named for a thing, not every note that mentions it. Several combine; -title: excludes.
• Bare tag: / -tag:: any tagged note, or the completely untagged. -tag: orphan: stale: is the full hygiene sweep.
• Autofill for operator arguments. link:, interlink:, title:, and folder: complete their arguments as you type (note titles by recency, folders from your real list); accepting auto-quotes anything with spaces.
• Submit a fleeting note straight into a folder. The Submit button’s menu lists your folders with their colors; a plain click still files to the Index root. Same advance-to-the-next-capture flow either way.
• Create into a folder from the search box. Type Work/Retro notes and press Return: the note is born inside Work/. The slash only acts as a path when the part before it is a real folder, so a stray / never invents one. An explicit path overrides the start-in-Inbox setting.
• Fixed: a comma inside a quoted operator argument (interlink:"Debrief (Sep 24, 2025)") no longer splits the search into meaningless OR groups; this had silently broken link: and quoted phrases with commas all along. img:/embed:/stale: register as operators in the search box again (styling, and Enter no longer offers to create a note literally named “img: diagram”). The blockquote rule no longer draws through the text of a single-line quote.

Your vault now syncs whole, and folders got friendlier.

• Move many notes at once: multi-select, right-click › Move N Notes to: any folder, the Index root, or New Folder… for the whole selection in one go.
• Fixed: notes with : or / in their titles refused to move to a folder at all. Moving one now also rewrites the vault's [[links]] if the filename form differs, so nothing breaks.
• “Attachments” and “Trash” are now reserved folder names at the Index root.

• Envy now opens properly when you sign in. With Envy in your Login Items, a sign-in launch could come up as just the menu bar eye: clicking it did nothing, and only a quit-and-reopen recovered. The window now appears on its own shortly after login, and every summon path (hotkey, menu bar, Dock) can recreate it if it's ever missing.
• Summon always lands in front. The summon hotkey could intermittently bring the window up behind the app you were using, a race against macOS's activation handling. The window now claims the top of the stack regardless.
• No more dialogs for image captions and widths. Right-click an image › Caption… or Custom width… drops your cursor straight into the marker's slot: you type in the note itself, existing value pre-selected. Rename… keeps its confirm step (it moves a real file and updates references everywhere) but is now a small popover at the image with the name pre-selected. Return commits, Esc cancels.

The optimization update: faster where you feel it, safer where you don’t.

• Pop Out: right-click any note in the list to open it directly in a floating window, no peek required. Editing the same note in two places stays in sync; each window commits its edits the moment you click away from it.
• Insert an image by sight, not by name: press ⇧⌘I in the editor (or right-click › Insert Image…) for a grid of thumbnails of every image in your vault; filter by name, click one, and it drops in at your cursor.
• Renaming an image now updates every note that embeds it, not just the one you renamed it from, sizes and captions preserved.
• Safer moves: moving a note into a folder that already has a note with the same name is refused instead of quietly renaming it to “Name (2)”, a hidden title change that would have silently re-aimed every [[link]] pointing at either note.
• Clicking a Suggested interlink now works even if you were typing a moment before; images render in peeks and floating notes; a note whose move to trash fails no longer vanishes from the list; assorted smaller fixes from a full code audit.

• img: and embed: search: img: finds every note holding an image, embed: every note that embeds another note. Both take trailing words and negate (-img:).
• See a note’s folder in the list: Settings › General › Note List › “Show a note’s folder as”: a colored dot, the folder’s name as a chip, or nothing.
• Opening a note that holds an image is no longer slowed by an unnecessary whole-vault title scan, and the build stays warning-free.

• ==highlight== marks text with a background, the == fading away like every other marker once your cursor leaves.
• stale: search: the complement of date:, for notes you haven’t touched. Bare stale: is six months; stale:week/month/year/N days narrow it, -stale: excludes. orphan: stale: finds the real backlog.
• Faster and quieter under the hood: less per-keystroke and per-mouse-move work on the hot paths, the note list stays snappy at 15,000+ notes (folder moves are instant), and the build is warning-free.

• Two honest limits on importing: images and attachments don’t transfer (you’ll see an [image omitted] marker where one was), and Apple Notes checklists arrive as ordinary bullet lists; Apple doesn’t expose the checkbox ticks to any app, so there’s nothing to bring across.
• Imported notes keep their original dates, so they sort by when you actually wrote them rather than when you imported them.
• The title line Apple Notes repeats inside the body is stripped, so a note isn’t opened by its own name.

• Fixed following a [[link]] not moving the cursor into the note when the target opened a fresh editor.
• Fixed typing [[ beside a word stranding the word outside the brackets, and closing *emphasis* by hand adding a stray extra marker. Typing a marker over a selection now wraps it: select a word, press [, get [word].
• Fixed a new [[link]] note landing in The Index instead of the Inbox when “New notes start in the Inbox” was on.
• ⌥⌫ clears the search box.

• Membership is the folder, not a mark in the file. A fleeting note is an ordinary .md file that happens to sit in Inbox/. Drag one out in Finder and it’s filed, exactly as if you’d pressed Submit; drop one in and Envy treats it as a capture.
• Titles are editable while reviewing a fleeting note, and for templates. A capture arrives without a real name, and deciding what it’s about is most of what reviewing means.
• Fixed ⌘-clicking a new [[link]] not creating the note. 1.3.0 made a link stay editable once your cursor was inside it, which swallowed the very click that creates the note you just named.
• ⌥⌫ clears the search box completely.

• Links are editable text again. Clicking inside a link the cursor is already in puts the caret where you clicked instead of following the link, and a plain click under “Require ⌘-click to open note links” now does the same rather than nothing at all. A revealed link is clickable across its whole span, so following one isn’t a race against the text expanding under the pointer.
• Fixed clicking Envy’s Dock icon while it was hidden opening a second window, after which both answered the summon shortcut.
• Fixed collapsed link brackets sometimes rendering as text stacked on itself after a partial restyle.
• Fixed the [[ autocomplete painting its suggestion over text that was already there when editing inside a finished link.
• The window no longer shows the “Envy” title beside the traffic lights.
• AI provenance is hidden for now. The ⎈ badge and the “Protect AI signatures” setting introduced in 1.2.2 are no longer shown, pending a decision on how the feature should work. Nothing in your notes changed: signature lines are still plain text, and are left exactly as they are.

• Renaming a note now updates its links everywhere. Rename a note and every [[link]] and ![[embed]] pointing to it across your vault is rewritten to the new name, so nothing breaks. The notes whose links changed keep their modified dates, so renaming a widely-linked note doesn't shove them all to the top of a date-sorted list.
• Settings → Theme → Appearance has a new Interface Text Size slider that scales the note list, search bar, and the rest of the app's chrome, separately from the editor's own font size.

• Deleting a note now sends it to a hidden .trash subfolder right next to it first, rather than straight to the real macOS Trash, so restoring it (⌘⇧⌫) always lands back in the exact folder it came from. Search trash: to browse everything currently trashed anywhere in The Index; clicking or arrowing through results just previews them read-only, with Restore/Reveal in Finder/Delete always a deliberate right-click or button away. Settings → General → Trash controls how often each .trash folder gets swept into the real macOS Trash (30 days by default), with a "Reveal Trash Folder in Finder" shortcut for the common case.
• template: browsing no longer needs a separate "Edit Template" step: clicking or arrowing to a match opens it live, editable, and auto-saving right in the editor pane. Creating a note from it is now its own deliberate action: press Return, or click "Create Note from Template."
• ⇧↑/⇧↓ now extend the note list's selection one at a time, same as Finder. template: and trash: browsing now support the same ⇧-click/⌘-click/⇧↑/⇧↓ multi-select, with bulk actions in the right-click menu.
• Fixed a note with multiple due dates reporting whichever one happened to be typed first as "the" due date, rather than the actual earliest/most urgent one. The due-date pill now shows a "+N" badge when a note has more than one active due date.
• @tomorrow and @yesterday now work as due-date tokens, matching due:tomorrow/due:yesterday. Fixed -due: and -todo: silently doing nothing in search; both now correctly exclude by due-date bucket or unchecked-task status.
• Fixed the note list showing a due date landing on today as "Today, 12:00 AM"; the file list no longer shows a time-of-day for any due date.
• Fixed wiki-link [[ autocomplete not suggesting anything in the pinned-note popup or the option-click preview panel.
• The note's title bar is no longer optional: removed the "Show title bar above note" toggle now that so much (rename, tags, the due-date pill) lives there. A title crowded by "Show tags in title bar" now scrolls into view on hover instead of just truncating.
• Typing tag: (or -tag:) in the search box now ghost-text-completes against tags you've actually used, most-used first.
• Fixed drag-selecting text in the search box: the highlight was drawn on top of the styled/ghost-suggestion text instead of underneath it.
• Typing ->, <-, or => now expands into an arrow (→, ←, ⇒) the instant it's finished, skipped inside code, where the same characters are more likely to be actual code.
• Removed the "Clicking the menu bar icon" setting; it now does the obviously-correct thing automatically: opens your pinned note if one's pinned, shows/hides Envy otherwise. Added "Unpin Note" to the menu bar icon's right-click menu, plus its own global shortcut (⌥⌘⇧P).
• Fixed the open note jumping away to whatever's now first in the list the moment your own edit knocked it out of a search filter: checking off a note's last unchecked task while searching todo:, say. The note you're actively editing now stays open until you actually navigate away from it.

• Simplified the due-date syntax: write @04-16-26 instead of due@04-16-26. Existing due@ tokens in your notes will no longer be recognized; re-typing them as @date picks them back up.
• Added day names as a due-date shorthand: @monday (or any day of the week) always means the next occurrence of that day; naming today's own weekday still resolves a full week out, not to today. @today means literally today.
• Click a due date to cross it out: a crossed-out due date no longer shows a pill or matches due: searches. Click again to bring it back.
• Checking off a task-list box whose text contains a due date retires it automatically, the same as crossing it out by hand, no ~~ needed. Unchecking the box brings it back.

• Fixed the pinned note popup's title clipping the last character at rest, even on titles well under the 25-character truncation limit; the label's fixed width was measured with a font approximation that occasionally landed a hair narrower than what actually got rendered.

• Typing in very large notes is faster too: the per-keystroke markdown styling pass now only re-processes the region around your edit on big documents, and checkbox layout work is skipped entirely for notes without checkboxes.
• Fixed a fast backspace right after typing (or a quick re-click of a checkbox) occasionally restoring the just-deleted text: the editor's own debounced save could echo back through the external-file-change detector and be mistaken for another app editing the note.
• Every color swatch in Settings → Appearance now has a reset-to-default button, and the Focus Highlight color moved in with the rest of the Focus Highlight settings instead of living two sections away.
• Theme colors are now uniformly "system until you customize them" under the hood, fixing a class of appearance-tracking edge cases (colors freezing at whatever Light/Dark resolved to at launch).
• Backlink computation and the wiki-link autocomplete index also moved off the main thread; both could previously cause brief hitches on large libraries.

• Every color is always editable, right down to the note editor's own title bar, tag colors, and text-selection highlight, with no more toggling "Use Custom Theme" first.
• Search-match highlighting, tag chips, and selected text now automatically flip to black or white when the theme's own color choice would otherwise be unreadable against its background.
• Fixed tag text rendering in the wrong color: the legibility check above was reading a tag's translucent background as if it were fully opaque, which could wrongly trigger that black/white flip on perfectly readable tag colors.
• Fixed text selection (dragging to select text) losing its highlight entirely in some cases; the selection color was being frozen at whatever the system happened to resolve at app launch instead of tracking it live.

• Replaced the New Note shortcut with Jump to OmniBar (⌘L by default); the search bar's own "type a name, hit ↩" already creates a note, so a separate shortcut for it felt redundant. Jump to OmniBar focuses the search bar from anywhere, including mid-edit in a note. New Note is still available from the File menu and the menu bar icon's right-click menu, just without its own key equivalent.
• The note-preview snippet (Settings → General → "Show note preview") now shows inline next to the title instead of on its own line below it.
• The pinned note popup's title now truncates to 25 characters at rest, and scrolls across to reveal the rest on hover. Click it to rename, same as before.
• Fixed the pinned note popup always opening at the top of the note; it now restores your cursor position (and scrolls it into view) from wherever you last were, even though it still reloads the note fresh from disk on every open.
• Fixed summoning or hiding Envy while AeroSpace is running in accordion layout mode sometimes bumping an unrelated app's window to the front instead of (or alongside) Envy.
• Fixed blockquotes (>) rendering too faint to read comfortably; quoted text was using the same very low-contrast color reserved for dimming collapsed markdown markers, not actual content.

• The popup is a real, user-resizable window (remembers its size across launches), with its own pin button to keep it open and floating above other windows instead of closing on the next outside click, and its own font zoom (⌘+/⌘-/⌘0) independent of the main editor's.
• Its title is editable right there in the popup, same rename behavior (and collision handling) as renaming any other note.
• Settings → General has a new "Show tags in title bar" toggle (off by default): a note's #tags show as chips next to its title. Click one to search tag:whatever without losing your place; the note you clicked from stays open.
• New search operators: todo: (notes with an unchecked task), folder:name (restrict to one configured folder), and -word/-tag:x/-folder:x (exclude notes matching a term, tag, or folder; combines with anything else in the query).
• Comma-separated search groups are OR'd together: dog, bone, leash matches anything with any one of the three. dog bone leash (no commas) is unchanged, still requiring all three terms.
• Tab now indents a list item (bullet, numbered, or task) a level deeper, and Shift-Tab outdents it, which makes sub-tasks practical: press Return under a checkbox, then Tab, and the new line nests as a child instead of a sibling.
• Task-list checkboxes no longer need a leading -: [ ]/[x] at the start of any line is now a live, clickable checkbox on its own, not just as part of a - [ ] list item. (- [ ] still works exactly as before, and still gets the bulleted-list treatment.)
• [ ]/[x] typed inside inline code (`[ ]`) stays literal text instead of turning into a checkbox, matching how every other markdown marker already behaves inside a code span.
• Fixed checkboxes occasionally rendering misaligned until you clicked into the editor; the checkbox glyph's position is now computed after forcing layout to fully complete, instead of trusting whatever the layout manager had already lazily cached, which could still be based on a provisional (pre-final-layout) width right after opening a note.

• Search typing was the big one: results are now computed on a short debounce instead of on every keystroke, and the results list itself is cached instead of being recalculated on every unrelated screen update (it was previously re-running a full search on every re-render, not just when you actually typed). Combined with switching to a much faster substring search and caching each note's searchable text instead of recomputing it every time, typing in the search box with 10,000+ notes went from noticeably laggy to instant.
• Switching between notes is faster too; the backlinks count and list had the same "recomputed too often" problem search did, fixed the same way.
• Opening the app (or reloading after any change) is faster: note files are now read in parallel instead of one at a time, and tag/wiki-link parsing per note is now done once and cached instead of every time it's needed.
• Fixed the "Loading notes…" indicator flashing repeatedly during a large import or external sync; Envy was treating every filesystem notification as a reason to rescan, including ones from Spotlight indexing new files in the background. It now only reacts to notifications that mean a note's content actually changed, and the indicator itself moved into the footer bar (next to the backlinks toggle) so it no longer shifts the note list around when it does appear.
• Settings → General now has "Show Envy in": Dock Only, Menu Bar Only, or Dock and Menu Bar (default, unchanged from before). Menu Bar Only still gets a full Dock icon and menu bar whenever a window is actually open (dropping back to menu-bar-only once every window closes), so everything that only lives in the menu (Font, Navigate, Folders, Check for Updates, and more) stays reachable.
• Fixed the search bar rendering much too dark in Light mode, and the same underlying color bug in inline code's (backtick-wrapped text) background. The search bar also picked up a more visible resting-state outline out of this.
• Fixed task-list checkboxes becoming unreliable (intermittently failing to render, then flickering) after being toggled a few times. Checkboxes now draw as a small overlay instead of substituting a glyph onto the underlying text, which was never fully reliable in AppKit.
• Fixed list bullets and unchecked checkboxes rendering invisible (white-on-white) in Light mode: the same underlying color-resolution bug as the search bar and inline code fixes above, just not caught until the checkbox rendering rework above surfaced it.

• template:daily searches by name; Return uses the top (or arrow-key-highlighted) match, or creates a new template if nothing matches yet.
• {{date}}, {{time}}, and {{title}} in a template's title or body are filled in when a note is created from it: a template literally named "Daily Notes {{date}}" produces a note titled with today's date automatically. {{date}}'s format is a free-text pattern in Settings → General → Templates (e.g. MMMM d, yyyy or yyyy-MM-dd), with a live preview.
• Right-click a template to edit it directly in Envy's own live-markdown editor, reveal it in Finder, or delete it (recoverable from Trash).
• Right-click any note to turn it into a template, and right-click a template to move it back to your notes; it restores to the folder it came from, or the default folder if that one's gone.
• Settings → General → Templates lets you choose one shared Templates folder or a separate one per notes folder.
• Three starter templates (Daily Notes, To-Do List, Study Notes) are created automatically the first time you use the feature.
• The menu bar "eyecon" now opens when Envy's window is showing and closes when it's hidden, with a green pupil matching the app's own icon. Added an easter egg. Blink and you'll miss it!
• Fixed Envy sometimes failing to come to the front when summoned while using AeroSpace (by nikitabobko): AeroSpace hides windows belonging to a workspace you're not currently on, and Envy's global hotkey bypasses AeroSpace entirely, so it had no way to know a summon just happened. Envy now talks to AeroSpace's own socket protocol directly (if it's running) to move its window onto your current workspace right before showing it.
• Fixed a checked task-list item (- [x]) silently failing to render as a checkbox (showing the raw - [x] text instead) whenever its text also contained other inline markdown, like code or bold.

• Summoning Envy now keeps focus wherever it was before you hid the app, instead of always jumping to the search box. Toggle "Keep focus where it was when summoned" in Settings → General to go back to the old always-search behavior.

• Markdown pairs now auto-close as you type: [[, **, *, `, ~~, and the (url) half of a [text](url) link all get their closing half inserted automatically, with typing through an existing closer instead of duplicating it.
• Typing inside an open [[ now offers a live inline suggestion for a matching existing note, ranked by which one you edited most recently; Tab accepts it, right-arrow dismisses it.
• Backlinks: the footer now shows a count of notes linking to the one you're viewing, expandable into a clickable list that opens upward from the footer. Toggle with ⌘⇧B (remappable in Settings → Shortcuts) or the new "Show backlinks in footer" setting.
• Fixed Envy silently reappearing after being hidden, on multi-monitor setups where each display runs its own Space. Hiding now orders the window out directly instead of using a full "Hide Application," which was tying into Mission Control's per-Space "last active app" bookkeeping.
